Actually, No NaNoWriMo for Me

Last week, I wrote about how I had changed my NaNoWriMo novel and how excited I was to write it. I’d actually written the scene that I’d had in my head for months as a short story for my writing workshop. I absolutely adored the characters and the emotion that was coming through in the writing. It was everything I wanted the story to be.
Then I went back to the beginning. And, I realized, the story just wasn’t ready to be written. It wasn’t a matter of me being too lazy or uninspired. The story just wasn’t ready. I tried to force it for a few days but then I decided, you know what? I love this story too much to butcher it because it’s not ready.

So I put it away. I have a notebook that I’m writing character notes and plot ideas and everything else in. I still have that scene I wrote for class that I love and I know that eventually, this story is going to come out of the closet and hopefully I can do it justice.

Until then, I am rewriting my MG.

NaNoWriMo 2010!

I wasn’t going to do NaNoWriMo. I told myself that I was too busy and that I should focus on my middle grades. But then, on November 1st, I changed my mind. The plan was to do NaNoWriMo unofficially by adding 50k to an old WIP.

Then the next, I had to write a scene for my Writing Workshop class. I wrote a scene from an idea I’ve had for a while. And well, I kind of fell in love.

So I’m now writing a YA called Guitar Girls and Drummer Boys.

Which means I’m writing about a band.

I’ve never been in a band.

I can’t play guitar.

I can’t decide if this character is going to die or not.

I really don’t know what’s going to happen in the story.

But, hey, it’s NaNo! So it’s okay!

Right?
